Primary Modern

The Primary modern class is the first of the graded classes and is suitable from age four. In the primary class the emphasis is on learning basic dance movements, right and left, and building a dancer’s confidence to perform. The grades develop strength, flexibility and artistry through series of carefully constructed exercises and movements. Styles such as lyrical, contemporary, isolations and jazz are taught alongside giving a classical technique.

Grade 1 Modern

The Grade 1 modern class is generally suitable from age six. The emphasis is on learning dance movements to a variety of styles of music, and building a dancer’s confidence to perform. The grades develop strength, flexibility and artistry through series of carefully constructed exercises and movements. Styles such as lyrical, contemporary, isolations and jazz are taught alongside giving a classical technique.

Grade 2 Modern

The Grade 2 modern class is generally suitable from age eight. The emphasis is on learning more complex dance movements to a variety of styles of music, and building a dancer’s confidence to perform. The grades develop strength, flexibility and artistry through series of carefully constructed exercises and movements. Styles such as lyrical, contemporary, isolations and jazz are taught alongside giving a classical technique.

Grade 3 Modern

The Grade 3 modern class is generally suitable from age ten. The children learn about co-operation and develop an understanding of the shaping of movement into artistic forms of expression. The grades develop strength, flexibility and artistry through series of carefully constructed exercises and movements. Styles such as lyrical, contemporary, isolations and jazz are taught alongside giving a classical technique.

Grade 4 Modern

The Grade 4 modern class is generally suitable from age ten. The children learn about co-operation and develop an understanding of the shaping of movement into artistic forms of expression. The grades develop strength, flexibility and artistry through series of carefully constructed exercises and movements. Styles such as lyrical, contemporary, isolations and jazz are taught alongside giving a classical technique.
