Scarlett absolutely loves dancing at Hot Tap Dance School. She does 5 classes a week as she enjoys every single type of dancing. Sam and all the teachers are brilliant with the kids - getting the right mix of training and fun and delivering great results. The shows that the school puts on are brilliant and extremely professional.

The school is fab that Scarlett (and Sam!) managed to convince me to do adult tap classes. Loads of laughs, getting fit and learning a new skill .. what’s not to love!

Tap

This has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African dance, Irish dance and/or clog dancing.

The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound.

Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals.

Street Dance

Street Dance is term applied to dances that were invented by the general public in the 1970's and later in (largely African-related) urban cultures.

The term itself comes from the fact that the dances were made in urbanised cities. There are no rules to street dance as improvisation and freestyle is emphasized.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is the combination of music (singing), acting and dancing. It is also one of the easiest forms of theatre to introduce people to as an audience member, as there as so many possible points of engagement.

Musical Theatre tells a story through more than one discipline. It blends music, theatre and movement and as such it is important to learn the proper techniques of each. This includes how to breathe and sing properly; a basic dance and movement vocabulary – and as you mature more sophisticated training; and finally proper acting instruction – that emphasises exploration, creativity and building the trust needed to work as part of a team.

In the musical theatre structure, music elevates a scene and dance elevates a song.
